The Provost’s Committee for Advising (PCA) seeks nominations for the Excellence in Advising awards in the following categories:

  • Excellence in Advising for Academic Advisors

Open to staff advisors in various colleges assigned to students based on the students’ major.

  • Excellence in Advising for Integrated Advisors

Open to staff integrated advisors who serve within the areas of Athletics, Enrollment Management, Provost’s Office, and/or Student Affairs.

All nominations are completed online by filling out the nomination form. Please review the Advising Awards guidelines and eligibility criteria carefully.

Nominations will be accepted starting Monday, March 29, 2021 at 8:00 a.m.

Deadline to submit your nomination(s) is Thursday, April 15, 2021 by 5:00 p.m.

Eligibility

Regular & current non-faculty staff advisors who have provided extraordinary service to students and the UNM community (see Selection Criteria below). Nominees must have been in the staff advising profession at UNM for a minimum of 6 months. Additionally, nominees should be in good standing with their employment and must not have received a PCA award within the last 5 years. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Selection: The nominee should demonstrate exemplary achievement in one or more of the following:

  • Demonstrates commitment towards the advising profession
  • Encourages students to pursue their goals
  • Maximizes opportunities relative to students’ educational plans (i.e. provides information on internships, scholarships, lectures, etc.)
  • Demonstrates excellence in service and dedication to students
  • Contributes to the greater good of the department, college, or University
  • Improves a process or system

Nomination Criteria

UNM students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to nominate eligible non-faculty staff advisors in an integrated or academic advising role. All nominations are completed online and should include a Nomination Form and up to two optional Letters of Support. Please keep in mind that all nominations are final upon submission.

The nominee should demonstrate exemplary achievement in one or more of the following:

  • Demonstrates commitment towards the advising profession
  • Encourages students to pursue their goals
  • Maximizes opportunities relative to students’ educational plans (i.e. provides information on internships, scholarships, lectures, etc.)
  • Demonstrates excellence in service and dedication to students
  • Contributes to the greater good of the department, college, or University
  • Improves a process or system

Checklist for Nominators:

  • Addressed how the nominee meets the award eligibility and nomination criteria.
  • Made sure all materials and edits final, as changes will not be allowed after nomination is submitted.
  • Nomination materials are prepared specifically for these awards and are not prepared for another awards process, as it will not be considered.
  • Submitted the nomination by the deadline, as late application will not be considered.

Screening Process

Members of the PCA selection committee, chaired by the Director of Advising, will evaluate all nominations based on how the nominee meets the criteria listed. Nominees placed in incorrect categories will be placed in the correct category.

Award

A plaque and monetary award will be presented to each recipient. The Excellence in Advising Award recipients will be recognized during the Provost’s Staff Awards ceremony.
