2024 National Transfer Student Week (NTSW)

October 21-25, 2024

The National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) describes National Transfer Student Week as a time to "celebrate transfer students and the professionals who support them on their journey." https://www.nists.org/national-transfer-student-week

This year's theme, "Unlocking Potential: Keys to the Transfer Journey" was created and described by NISTS as:

"This year's theme celebrates the wealth of skills, knowledge, and perspectives that transfer students bring to our campuses. It recognizes they possess their own unique 'keys' - their problem-solving skills and adaptability, diverse lived experiences, and connections to community - and are motivated to achieve their goals. Our role is to amplify that inherent potential, creating clear pathways and inclusive environments where all students can fully apply their strengths and confidently navigate the transfer experience."

We are celebrating our transfer students (those who transfer to UNM Albuquerque from outside of the UNM system) and our branch transition students (those who transition to UNM Albuquerque from a different UNM campus) as well as our staff and faculty who support these students by hosting some events and programming during the week of October 21st - October 25th.

Grand Opening!  Ribbon Cutting Ceremony                                                      UNM Transfer & Transition Student Center

To kick off National Transfer Student Week (NTSW), UNM Albuquerque is proud to officially open their brand new Transfer & Transition Student Center.  All are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this special occasion.  Come see our new space and learn all about the services the Transfer & Transition Student Center will offer to current and future students whose pathway brought them to UNM Albuquerque from another college or university, from another UNM campus, or through UNM Albuquerque's Dual Credit & Concurrent Enrollment Program.

Transfer students, who make up roughly one third of our undergraduate student population, face unique challenges that can hinder their success, such as the complexity of navigating and adjusting to a new campus, new curriculum, new financial aid needs, and new advisement and social cultures. The UNM Transfer & Transition Student Center will be a home to future and current transfer and transition students where they can find a range of resources, tools, and programming to streamline their student experience while fostering their connections to the university and to each other. In collaboration with our campus and external partners, our goal is to provide robust support that empowers students to pursue and accomplish their personal, academic, research, and professional aspirations as they navigate their educational journey.
