Rachel Perovich
Communication and Outreach Specialist
About Rachel Perovich:
I grew up in Albuquerque, NM and am a third-generation Lobo. My first experience with UNM was attending Lobo basketball games with my grandfather in The Pit. After earning my Bachelor of Arts in English from UNM in 2010, I worked as a technical writer, an office administrator, and in several positions working with K-12 aged children. Meanwhile, I realized what I really wanted to do was become an academic advisor and help students who felt overwhelmed by college like I did. I started the graduate certificate in Academic Advising from Kansas State University which helped me get a position as an academic advisor in the College of Fine Arts at UNM. I completed a Master of Science in Academic Advising from KSU in 2014. After 12 years advising for the College of Fine Arts, I joined the Office of Advising Strategies as the Communication and Outreach Specialist in 2024.
My Role in OAS:
My goal is to provide an open line of communication between the UNM advising community and advisement leadership. In this role, I do a lot of writing: a monthly newsletter, standard operating procedures and best practices, email announcements to advisors, meeting minutes, and communications to students. I'm also always listening for ways we can support advisors and strengthen our community.
