Strategic Support Manager

About Jennifer C. Lucero:

I was born and raised in Albuquerque, namely the South Valley. I am a non-traditional, first-generation student who credits my ability to complete my degree with the support of my single mother, relationship with my academic advisor Ann Marie Ornelas, funds from financial aid, and UNM offering a degree that aligned with my personal interests. I failed hard as a first semester, first year student so I took some time off to work and figure out what I wanted to do while taking classes off and on at CNM. When I realized that I immensely disliked my office job, I returned to school in my late twenties where I was able to enroll in a then newly created degree, BA in Media Arts (now named Film and Digital Arts). I loved all my classes, and the faculty boosted my belief in myself and my abilities to succeed. After graduation, I took a long break from education to work and started my family but have very recently begun pursuing an MA in Educational Psychology. I'm really enjoying this path as it allows me to use my years of personal and professional experience into the coursework.

I began my professional career at UNM as a work study in the College of Fine Arts Advisement Office where I built strong relationships with the faculty and staff. Later I was hired to work in the administrative office for the Art Department and then returned to CFA Advisement Center as an admin before moving into academic advisement. I spent over 20 years in the College of Fine Arts before moving to the Office of Advising Strategies as the Strategic Support Manager.

My Role in OAS

My primary role in OAS is working with UNM IT in developing the new CRM, Student Hub. Student Hub will be the new student and advisement tool that will eventually replace LoboAchieve and will be a centralize place where students and advisors will connect via appointments, documentation of processes and interactions, and point of communication. We are in the final stages of completing phase I hoping to roll out in late spring.  Beyond that, I also work closely with the OAS team develop best practices for the UNM advising community, collaborate on building training for new advisors, and sharing updates on General Education.
