Alexandria Prather
Professional Intern
About Alexandria Prather:
After some early childhood moves across the New Mexico-Texas line, I settled and grew up in east NM. Post high-school, I returned to Texas to attend Texas Tech University. Alongside my astrophysics curriculum of thermodynamics, observatory nights, and differential equations, I immersed myself in outreach work, working with orientation and acting as secretary of two student organizations. I became invested in the experiences of struggling students; I was surrounded by disadvantaged populations while I was navigating the disruptions of a dysfunctional family and other discriminatory barriers. By graduation, I championed a BS in Physics, honors designations, an organization distinguished chapter award, many hours of mentorship of young physicists, and success in defying discrimination and generational cycles.
After college, I moved to Albuquerque with my partner; I'm inspired to continue my work in higher-education mentorship through UNM's advisement, with a long-term goal of advancing my astrophysics education. You can often find me in dance classes with Keshet Dance or taking pictures with kittens at Catopia Cat Cafe.
My Role in OAS:
UNM advisement strives to support students through guidance with educational and post-graduation plans; I work with the Office of Advising Strategies and UNM advisors in achieving that goal. As an intern, I assist through peak advisement periods, such as New Student Orientation and registration openings. Through my work, I will collaborate with students work through hardship and materialize a path to their professional aspirations.Ask Me About:
