Provost's Committee for Advising Award

Each year the Office of Advising Strategies (OAS), formally the Provost’s Committee for Advising, honors staff for their role as advisors and their impressive contributions to students through an awards process. UNM students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to nominate advisors for consideration. The nomination deadline is April 20th, 2018 by 5:00pm. The awards will be presented at a spring awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018. Please note that self-nominations are not accepted to encourage nominations from students, faculty, and staff.

There are two awards:

  1. Excellence in Advising for Academic Advisors
  2. Excellence in Advising for Integrated Advisors

These awards are presented to advisors who proactively demonstrate passion towards the advising profession and commitment to students’ success by encouraging them to overcome challenges, hurdles, transitions, and maximize opportunities relative to the students’ educational plans, careers, and life goals.

There will be four Excellence in Advising recipients, two of which will be academic advisors, and two of which will be integrated advisors. Recipients will each receive a cash award of $500, as well as a plaque.

Nominators take on the responsibility of putting together a complete online nomination packet. All materials are submitted online. This includes:

  • Nomination form
  • Two letters of support (optional)

  • Must have been in the advising profession at UNM for at least 6 months
  • The awards committee may not consider individuals that have received the award within 5 years
  • The awards committee will ensure the potential recipients are in good standing with their employment

This award is only available to academic advisors, which are advisors in various colleges who are assigned to students because of their majors. For example, the English advisor would be an academic advisor.

This award is only available to integrated advisors, which are advisors in:

  • Athletics
  • Student Affairs
  • Provost’s Office
  • Enrollment Management

  1. Please read the Advising Awards guidelines and eligibility carefully, and address how the nominee meets the award criteria.
  2. Once a nomination/application has been submitted, you will be unable to make changes.
  3. Nomination materials must be prepared specifically for these awards. Materials prepared for another award process will not be considered.
